I went digging in my garage and brought out a little MAC 160S that hasn't been run in over 10 years. My father bought it in the early to mid 80s. I couldn't figure out the throttle/latch so I wedged a stick in the throttle linkage and it cranked right up. Runs pretty good. The handle is cracked/broken so I'm on the lookout for a replacement handle but may rig something up with some conduit or thick walled PVC pipe. I later found the manual for it, that's why I call it a 160S. 'Eager Beaver' is labeled on the saw itself. The picture on Chainsaw Collectors Corner site shows a saw with a black handle where mine is yellow. I assume that this is the original manual but I have had a habit of collecting a few manuals when I come up on them and think that they may be of use in the future. This Manual doesn't tell much, like what spark plug or specific chain to use. The Collectors Corner indicates that the proper plug is AC CS45T or Champion DJ8 and the chain should be CHAIN PITCH: 3/8 in. low profile - CHAIN TYPE: McCulloch MP370GLX. The air filter is a little flocked cup described in the Corner as a Flocked wire screen. The manual says it can be washed in a solvent...what kind of solvent I wonder...water or water with detergent...alcohol? The idle adjustment screw is located within the throttle latch. I wasn't able to manipulate the idle by turning that screw. I always thought that this saw only had a manual oiler but the book indicates that it has an auto oiler w/ a manual option. Are there any parts out there available for this saw? I found a couple of chains that I had hanging up. One has 'MINI 370' stamped on the drive link and the other has '91' on the link. The wore-out chain on the saw has '91' stamped on it. Any suggestions or ideas on resurrecting this little saw into a useable tool is appreciated.
